Now that True Grit has muscled its way into the frontrunner slot to win Best Picture – more in a 20 Weeks column coming up later today – watching the film’s box office, a major influencer, becomes more interesting.
This, because of course to the Gurus of the Gold, The Social Network can’t win. It can’t win, damnit. It can’t win because Academy members are simply too infantile to vote for something that doesn’t make them cry. Or where they don’t like the characters. Or because it’s about Facebook. It can’t win and it won’t win! Cut to….And the Oscar for Best Picture goes to ….just kidding. Kidding. Kidding. Eleven years at the wheel and I do enjoy my petty torments. May the best film win. Truly.
