This story reminds me of Ben Bradlee in All the President’s Men saying “WILL SOMEONE GO ON RECORD FOR THIS STORY!?”
According to an anonymously sourced exclusive, that could neither be confirmed nor denied, David Fincher’s first choice is Christian Bale play the lead in the Jobs biopic. Okay fine, interesting story, interesting film project but it’s being floated out there as truth with not a lot of there there. All the same, I trust Jeff Schneider would not float a story that wasn’t by someone in the know.
I always get the feeling that peeps be tossing shade Fincher’s way on occasion, to make him appear “difficult” or demanding when the reality is that he has the best instincts when it comes to the kinds of films he knows he wants to make. Unlike most directors working in Hollywood he is one of the few who does not do it for a paycheck and actually has — wait for it — integrity. Therefore I look at this story and I think – interesting if Bale is the one who ultimately gets to play Jobs. Fincher knows what he’s doing and that’s the only part of it I know for sure.
Oscar winner Christian Bale is David Fincher’s choice to play Steve Jobs in the untitled movie that Aaron Sorkin has written for Sony, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.
Scott Rudin and Mark Gordon are producing with Film 360’s Guymon Casady.
A representative for Gordon did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment, while Sony declined to comment on the record. A representative for Bale also did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Fincher recently met with Sony’s Amy Pascal to discuss the possibility of directing the film, and told her, in no uncertain terms, that he’d only take the reins of the project if Bale plays Jobs.
And take note of this:
Bale has not been approached to play Jobs yet.
The pic will supposedly unite the Social Network collaborators once again, namely David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin. I know, I know. But there is a long way to go between now and then and way too many things that could change.
