She was just so wonderful. I didn’t believe my friend when he told me she had passed. Yesterday will be remembered as one of the saddest days for the movie industry.
This is really a down year: Williams, Bacall, Ruby Dee, Phillip, how many more talented one-of-a kind actors will we lose?
Another sad loss in Hollywood. These type of people can not be replaced. God bless her.
There’s a little mistake in the tributes list. Bacall received the Supporting Nom in 1997 (Binoche win), not in 2007 (Hudson).
Lauren Bacall is a star?
I kid.
Amazing that her career began with Howard Hawks, whose own career started in the SIlent Era, and ended doing work on Von Trier and Miyazaki movies. In that way, her career spanned the whole wisdom of the cinema.
Just realised that if Lauren Bacall had won her Oscar she would have presented Best Supporting Actor the following year to Robin Williams.
Did you know she was Shimon Peres’ cousin? Can you imagine their grandparents? They were poor Polish Jews, little did they know their granddaughter would become an Oscar-winning Hollywood legend and their grandson a Nobel-prize-winning Israeli President. Greatness runs in the family!
I just woke up thinking “gotta check the news, it can’t be worse than yesterdays'”… Oh boy, was I wrong? Super rainy week both literally and figuratively 🙁
@Koles….
Turning INTO? I think it’s already there…whatever it is…..here’s hoping the rest of the year “treats things better”–if that can be said.
What the fuck is this year turning into?
I posted this tribute this afternoon to the great screen beauty and Hollywood legend.

I don’t think it’s sad when an 89 year-old dies. I think of it as bittersweet. Circle of Life and all that.
Death is as part of life as being born.
Someone killing himself out of despair is inexpressibly sad and tragic.
You know how to whistle, don’t you [. . .] ? You just put your lips together and . . . blow.
R.I.P. Slim.
I’ve admired and loved Lauren Bacall since I was 15. Even though this is not unexpected it’s still greatly upsetting. It’s sad to think of a world that she’s no longer in. Rest in Peace.
It’s sad to think young people today have not heard of her and will likely never know the joys of seeing Bogart and Bacall together.
Ah, crap… What a lousy week.
Bacall is one of the last of the megastars from old Hollywood. She was a major presence on and off screen (thinking of her at Bogey’s side taking on McCarthy in the 50s). She was always bigger than the parts she played.
(Murder on the Orient Express)
Mrs. Hubbard: I mean there was a man in my compartment last night. It was pitch dark, of course, and my eyes were closed in terror…
(Then how did you know it was a man?)
Mrs. Hubbard: Because I’ve enjoyed *very warm* relations with both my husbands.
(With your eyes closed?)
Mrs Hubbard: That helped.
RIP Mrs Hubbard
I really can’t stand another loss. Difficult to process. Bacall was the true definition of Legend. RIP.
It’s such a depressing week, we have the worst flooding ever in detroit. Every single freeway is closed somewhere and now 2 huge stars die in 2 days..
I loved Lauren, she was so beautiful and so talented.
If I were a Hollywood legend this week, I would board up all my windows, stay home, and ask my doctor to make a housecall tonight–I’d pay him extra. Geez.
“You know how to whistle, don’t you? Just put your lips together and blow.”
RIP Lauren Bacall–legend….
I’m so over this week and it’s barely begun…..
