It’s full steam ahead for the Avatar campaign as they make it quite clear that A) they want to win Best Picture, as evidenced by Cameron declaration on both Charlie Rose and MTV, and B) they will try to win on the film’s environmental message as opposed to the acting, writing and directing. Another tidbit posted by Pete Hammond:
Speaking of “Avatar” and the environment, the Natural Resources Defense Council and James Cameron are hosting a “special screening of select scenes” in 3D¬†on Monday at Fox’s Zanuck Theatre followed by a conversation between Cameron and critic Elvis Mitchell. It would be interesting to learn just how many members of the NRDC are also academy voters. At any rate tickets are $125 for the scenes and the discussion and $250 if you want to attend the post-show reception. For that kind of cash they will probably let you keep the 3D glasses too.
So, what do you think? Can a movie that made $700 million at the box office manage to give off the illusion that is the Al Gore of Oscars 2010? Natural Resources Defense Council and Fox – that’s a combination you don’t hear every day.
