Although I missed the whole thing, apparently there was a sort of Twitter fight about whether or not the Dark Knight fan base had it in for anyone who dared to say a negative thing about Inception. This, because some have seen the movie and others haven’t. Those who haven’t seen it are in a bit of a pickle as to how to talk about the film. The only thing left to talk about is the positive response. A few other films have trickled down this way – There Will Be Blood was one. Avatar was another. Benjamin Button, Sweeney Todd, etc. What’s slightly irritating now is how the Dark Knight fans are being dragged in, as if we all think and breathe in a gelatinous mass.
So I too have my helmet on as we wait for the inevitable backlash from people who don’t like people who like The Dark Knight. I guess it’s too much to ask that the film simply be seen and reviewed. ¬†For what it’s worth, The Dark Knight and Inception are worlds apart, even if much of the same people were assembled to make this film.
Meanwhile, Kris Tapley does a good job laying out the prospects of Inception and Oscar. ¬†I still think it’s too early to go there, but this is a fair assessment.
