Great podcast. But, I disagree that it’s “terrible” that Hoffman’s last films will be Hunger Games movies. In fact, he will be introduced to a new generation of moviegoers who will watch his work and perhaps be inspired to dig back into the past to watch his older films and most beloved performances, who wouldn’t have otherwise bothered to discover him.
Sasha, you need to watch “Synecdoche, New York”. I know you often speak of re-watching films and being able to catch different nuances within it. This is one of those films that REQUIRES repeat viewing because it is just chock full with these brilliant little subtleties that can easily be missed. PSH also gives a fantastic performance in it.
Eric’s right. Everyone should watch Synecdoche. As I said in the pod, it was one of the best movies of its year. Inscrutable, but fascinating and wonderful
It is a film where I never really understood what was actually happening but it sort of weaves a magic spell on you throughout and by the end you just cannot help but love it. Michelle Williams, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Morton, and actually the whole cast are all stellar here. It’s really underrated for sure.
