Kicking off this week’s look into Awards Daily TV’s favorite Saturday Night Live clips are two clips that satirize significant pop culture milestones: Starbucks and the 90s-era TV show Blossom. Starbucks Verismo
When it first aired back in January 2013, viewers had the sense that SNL was getting away with something really big here – namely, they were effectively skewering Starbucks and their name-botching baristas while simultaneously deploying one of the more outwardly racist sketches in recent memory. SNL doesn’t take many chances of late, but this one felt a little over the top in its satire. What’s your take on Starbucks Verismo? Racist or much ado about nothing?
Blossom
To anyone who grew up watching TV in the 90s, Blossom was something of an accidental cultural milestone. Equally loathed and beloved, the series had many quirks and eccentricities that made it ripe for SNL‘s grasp – the “very special episode” nature of the series, the quirky opening, the Joey Lawrence and Mayim Balkiness of it all. What aired is an unsung SNL classic, a throwback to the days when Mike Myers played human beings that weren’t named Wayne and Melanie Hutsell gave every skit she was in her all.

How long do you have?
Jeopardy, Celine Dion, Martha Stewart, Salley O’Malley, Bronx Beat, Kaitlyn, Mom Jeans, Delicious Dish, “Cheeseburger Cheeseburger,” Wayne’s World. Church Lady, Chippendales. I really could go on and on.
I think most of us who still watch the show every week complain about the current quality…I mean, I do, but nearly all of the people I talk to also say the same thing: “It’s SNL, I’m always going to record it.” I think that’s a part of the significance of the show that isn’t talked about enough…its a show that’s passed down through generations. At least that’s how it is in my family. I’m 31 years old, but I know about the Coneheads, Gilda Radner and Jane Curtin . This is because my parents would tell me about these people, and I’d remember being a child and watching my dad laugh at his favorite character: the Church Lady. And now my nephew can’t get enough of Drunk Uncle.
Yes, I’m still gonna complain, but it still makes me laugh every once in a while, and I’m always going to record it.

SNL is definitely something different generations can share. Like it or not now, it’s morphed with the times for 40 years. That’s pretty incredible.
Except for Jost. He sucks.
I did catch the Chippendales episode! I’m not sure if that skit would have been funny with someone else. It was due to Farley. He was so good.
