Does the Finale of Hulu’s ‘The Dropout’ Make the Grade?

Last week, Elizabeth Holmes changed out of her black turtleneck, stopped lowering her voice, and got a dog. One of the most buzzed about limited series of 2022 so far, The Dropout has been steadily gaining momentum as a true contender for this year’s upcoming Emmy race. Is the series itself in contention or will Amanda Seyfried be the show’s best shot? Can someone in the show’s huge cast make the cut to help solidify its award chances? Is this the last we will see of Seyfried as Holmes? Megan and Joey speculate on this week’s episode.

The One Where Will Smith Smacked Chris Rock

This week, we’re reviewing the 94th Annual Academy Awards ceremony where a bunch of films won some awards. You may also know it as the ceremony where Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s hair, and Will Smith smacked him across the face. We talk about the ceremony: what we liked, what we didn’t like, and what we lamented.

Handicapping the 2022 SAG Awards with Guest Steve Mason

This week, the Water Cooler Gang is happy to welcome Steve Mason, of ESPN radio and the co-host of the Culture Pop podcast, to break down the big races at this weekend’s Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. The SAG Awards cover performances and stunts in both film and television, and it’s time to figure out who’s going to win. We look at who the front runners are and who could potentially upset. Oscar nomination leader The Power of the Dog received three individual performance nominations, but it missed out on a SAG Ensemble bid. So, what could win in its place? It is Belfast? CODA? Don’t Look Up? On the TV side, Succession and Ted Lasso lead all SAG contenders with five nominations each. Will those translate into wins? Join us as we sort through all of the nominations and try to make sense of it all.

We close our podcast, as always, with the Flash Forward to the media we’re most anticipating in the upcoming week.

Make sure to follow Awards Daily TV on Twitter for next week’s premiere Twitter Spaces outing. Megan, Joey, and Clarence will be joined by Jalal Haddad to discuss the latest in the 2022 Emmy race.

This week, the Water Cooler Gang discusses Netflix’s newest limited series Inventing Anna, starring Julia Garner and Anna Chlumsky. ‘And Just Like That…’ Joey Takes on the Internet

HBO’s Sex and the City returned late last year with a new series that famously excluded Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones. However, critics and the internet in general greeted And Just Like That with knives out. And perhaps justifyingly so. The pilot episode missed the original run’s breathless delivery and light execution. Granted, someone died, which wasn’t exactly a hilarious way to start a very different, very modern series, very Che-filled series. But we’ve got 10 episodes behind us, so how did the series stick the landing? Joey leads the conversation in a defense of And Just Like That. Are Clarence and Megan along for the ride?

Hot and Ready: It’s Hulu’s ‘Pam and Tommy’

Are you ready for it?

Hulu’s Pam and Tommy limited series dips back into the mid-1990s and explores the infamous internet sensation of the first major sex tape commonly sold on the internet. Directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya), the series takes a broad approach to what appears to be a relatively simple storyline. Lily James and Sebastian Stan play the titular characters with James crafting a remarkably sensitive portrait of the Baywatch star. But does the material warrant an 8-episode limited series? We dive into the series on the latest edition of the Water Cooler Podcast.

But first, Megan gives us a look at the fully remote 2022 Sundance Film Festival.
