Game of Thrones‘s Alfie Allen talks to Clarence about the character arc for his Emmy-nominated performance of Theon Greyjoy in another Emmy-nominee podcast.

The final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones received a record-breaking 32 Emmy nominations. Included within that massive haul is a much-deserved nomination for supporting actor Alfie Allen. One of the original dozen or so actors cast back in 2009, Allen’s trajectory as the troubled Theon Greyjoy brought him a significant amount of obsessive fan derision before ultimately receiveing a full character redemption in his final episode “The Long Night.” That is a hugely deserved redemption after the character was disfigured, shall we say, and rebranded Reek at the hands of the sadistically mad Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon).

Here on the latest Emmy-nominee Water Cooler Podcast, Allen talks about his journey through 10 years of Game of Thrones and what it was like filming those intense mid-series scenes. He also touches on the divisive fan reaction to the final season and what he will take away from 10 years in Winterfell.

The Water Cooler Podcast talks to Surviving R. Kelly showrunner dream hampton about her Emmy-nominated work for Outstanding Informational Series or Special.

It’s one of the most talked-about series of the year.

The three-night, six-hour docu-series Surviving R. Kelly kicked off 2019 with a bang, breaking records for the Lifetime network by averaging 2.1 million viewers. The series details the alleged years of sexual abuse of women and young girls at the hands of Kelly, and became a talking point on social media and in the news, culminating with an explosive interview between Gayle King and the pop singer. In June 2019, the series became an Emmy nominee for Outstanding Informational Series or Special, and a month later, Kelly faced federal charges that could potentially put the singer in prison for the rest of his life.

Joey Moser, Clarence Moye, and I had the pleasure of chatting with showrunner dream hampton about what it was like putting this project together, why families underestimated Kelly’s influence on their daughters, and what it’s like to see her docu-series a part of the push to bring him to justice.

In a special Emmy nominee podcast, Clarence speaks with Emmy-nominated composer Hildur Guðnadóttir about her inventive and unique score for HBO’s Chernobyl.

HBO’s acclaimed Chernobyl received 19 Emmy nominations thanks, in part, to its extraordinary below-the-line crafts. Among that massive Emmy haul was Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir’s compelling and truly unique score. Perfectly mood setting, the Chernobyl score wasn’t actually recorded with any instruments. Instead, Guðnadóttir insisted on visiting the decommissioned nuclear power plant in Lithuania used to film the limited series. There, she discovered that the facility – its pipes, its doors – still had stories to tell. She used those “voices” to craft her brilliant Emmy-nominated score.

Here at the Water Cooler, Hildur Guðnadóttir talks to me about her strive for authenticity in creating the score and about the process of recording in a largely radioactive facility. It is a fascinating conversation about a score that defies convention in every way.
