Casting: Rick Springfield Shooting ‘True Detective’

Returning Series

True Detective. The TV internet basically crapped itself when ’80s popster Rick Springfield announced on Twitter he’s just completed his first day of filming on season two of the hit HBO show. No one knows any details, but now I’m hoping Rachel McAdams plays the girl of some guy named Jessie.

Murder in the First. CSI: NY‘s AJ Buckley will be joining Steven Bochco’s TNT crime show as a regular. Similar in some respects to Bochco’ mid ’90s experiment Murder One, Murder in the First traces the course of one murder investigation each season. (Deadline)

Continuing Series

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Blair Underwood will be joining ABC’s slice of the Marvel universe in March. He’ll be playing the ex-husband of Ming-Na Wen’s character, May. I’m pretty sure their babies would’ve had super powers or would’ve at least been ridiculously beautiful. (The Wrap)

Scandal. Jason Butler Haner has booked a recurring gig on Shonda Rimes’ hit show starring Kerry Washington. Which begs the question: Jason Butler Harner who? I’m told he had recurring roles on The Blacklist and was also on Alcatraz. (EW)

New Series

Scream. Disney TV star Bella Thorne will be playing Drew Barrymore’s character in the pilot of MTV’s small screen adaptation of the hit horror franchise. I’m not even sure how this works since we’ve already been told that the 10-episode show will not feature Ghostface. (TV Line)

Fresh Off the Boat. Former NBA star Scottie Pippen and 30 Rock star Judah Friedlander have landed guest-starring roles on ABC’s mid-season sitcom about a young Asian-American being raised in Orlando Florida by his immigrant parents. In a stretch, Pippen will be playing himself, while Friedlander will play a school counselor. The show drops on February 4. (EW)
