Syfy dropped the trailer for their ambitious new science-fiction series The Expanse in the hope we’d forget the mostly terrible Oscar nominations this morning. Most of the internet seems mainly fascinated by the zero-gravity sex, which of course it is and this is why we can’t have nice things.
Anyway, Syfy briefly describes the show: “A thriller set two hundred years in the future, The Expanse follows the case of a missing young woman who brings a hardened detective and a rogue ship’s captain together in a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history.”
The ten episode series is based on the bestselling Hugo-nominated book series, written by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck under the pen name James S. A. Corey.
The main takeaway for me is that two of my favorite supporting characters from two of the best shows on TV in the last few years – Emmy nominees Jonathan Banks (Mike from Breaking Bad) and Jared Harris (Lane Pryce from Mad Men) – are in it. Also, Emmy winner (and Oscar nominee) Shohreh Aghdashloo (24, Grimm, House of Sand and Fog). Also, Thomas Jane (Hung), but whatever with him and that stupid hat he’s wearing.
