Most of the time this site has been running our government was under Republican rule. It started around 1999, just a couple of years before 9/11, which really did change everything. Being that the Hollywood machine is mostly on the left, the mood has been in a downturn; nothing has seemed all that hopeful where Hollywood was concerned. The last two years have shown the Best Pic prize going to the darkest of them all. Now, there is a new dawn. Or at least through November there will be as Barack Obama has clinched the Democratic nomination, beating back Hillary Clinton. The thing about him that I most admire is that, despite all of the attacks launched FOR him by journalists and bloggers (many of them revealing their general hatred of women anyway and if you’ve read them long enough you’ve already known this) and despite how the Clinton side DID play dirty, Obama never did. He never once said things he could have said and has run a clean campaign. When was the last time THAT happened? We have gotten so used to politics-as-usual we have come to accept that, in order to become president, you have to fight with your teeth barred.
Where this will take Obama it’s too soon to know. How long can he stay being such a good egg once the right wing launches their own attacks? Who knows. Has the Clintonian battle been child’s play? Will it get dirty and end dirty? I guess we’re about to find out. All of this WILL impact the Oscar race in so much as the general mood always impacts the Oscar race. And away we go.
