‘Che’ picked up by IFC

In one swift unexpected maneuver, IFC ensures that Soderbergh’s Che moves from being the film least likely to be seen by anybody outside NYC and LA to suddenly becoming one of the easiest to see.

In a surprise move, IFC Films has acquired Steven Soderbergh’s double bill “Che,” swooping in and taking rights to the pic after a number of false reports had put it with Magnolia.

“Che” will be the most expensive film by far ever released on the simultaneous release day-and-date distribution model. After a one-week awards qualifying run in Los Angeles and New York in December, IFC will reopen the film in January through IFC in Theaters on VOD and in cinemas.

Last year IFC offered ‘Paranoid Park,’ and ‘4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days’ through Video On Demand. Maybe not the ideal way to see a movie, but a heck of a lot better for thousands of people than not seeing it at all.
