According to our reliable source, Pete Travers has given Gus Van Sant’s Milk his second four star review of the year (I don’t believe the review has been posted yet). You might think, so what? It’s just Pete Travers but if you’ve been an astute Oscar watcher you’ll remember that Travers is, strangely enough, one of the few critics who seems to think like Academy members think; those films that reach the top-ish of his top ten list every year inevitably go on to a Best Pic nomination.
At any rate, here are his four starrers from last year:
There Will Be Blood
Atonement
No Country for Old Men
4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days
The dude just doesn’t hand them out that often. Granted, many of the Best Pic contenders have yet to be released, but his high praise of Milk is a fairly big deal, in my world anyway.
And what the first and only other four starrer? Wall-E.
