Slumdog May Clean Sweep It

With the Cinema Audio Society choosing Slumdog for its sound award, it’s time to consider a potential clean sweep for the film. So, you might wonder, what is different from No Country and Slumdog?

Leaving most of the critics awards out of it and keeping the Globes, Critics Choice and NBR.

No Country won: Art Directors Guild, Critics Choice, Cinema Audio Society, DGA, PGA, SAG, WGA, Scripter, NBR,

Slumdog has won: Golden Globe, BAFTA, Critics Choice, Cinema Audio Society, DGA, PGA, WGA, SAG, Scripter, NBR, and will likely win the Ace Eddie tonight.

It isn’t really how many awards Slumdog has won over most films since probably Return of the King, it’s how many of the individual awards it has won: six seven BAFTAs, five Critics Choice, four Golden Globes. The six BAFTAS thing is particularly impressive since they generally spread the wealth with their awards.

By contrast, Return of the King only won four BAFTAS, the Ace Eddie, 4 critics choice awards, 4 Golden Globe awards, costume guild, DGA, PGA, NBR, SAG ensemble. It did not win the Cinema Audio Society, the Writers Guild, Cinematographers Society…

Coming close to this was Brokeback Mountain which won almost everything, except the Eddie and the SAG ensemble. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like Slumdog Millionaire in terms of how fast and far the film has gone. For Fox Searchlight, it’s a grand slam the third fourth time at bat.
