This video, ah, not safe for work….I think it’s a good speech, even if he does use some similar material. It’s not easy giving great speeches again and again. Rourke seemed to find, as he went along, that the more he was “himself” the better the crowd reacted. He was mildly subdued at the Globes, but he thanked his dogs. He let loose at the BAFTAs and brought the house down, and then at the IFPs:

Rourke might not win tonight, as some have pointed out, Bill Murray was all set to collect his Oscar when Penn won. Penn was way overdue when he won for Mystic River and though it was a good performance it was nowhere near Oscar-worthy. Now, he’s up for truly Oscar-worthy work in Milk. It reminds me a little of Russell Crowe winning for Gladiator, which he didn’t deserve, but then when A Beautiful Mind came along, and he DID deserve it, he didn’t win because Denzel Washington did.
