Watching Rataouille again this evening, it occurs to me that animation is to live action as the rat is to the restaurant chefs in the film. Their writing is brilliant, their product is magnificent and yet, and yet, because they’re animated they will never be let in the front door at the Oscars and allowed their rightful place at the Best Picture table. What I’m wondering is how long they really hold off when animation continues to kick live action’s ass year after year. How long before that “Best Animated Film” honor really starts to feel hollow?
