Comic Con isn’t where Oscar geeks go to find Oscar news, not traditionally. But a curious combination of factors makes it so this year, chief among them Jim Cameron and his Avatar. Peter Jackson will be there but not for The Lovely Bones. Rather, he’ll be there in association with District 9. EW has a nice Comic Con preview, though something tells me that there will be no shortage of Comic Con coverage this year. All outlets big and small will be there. EW, by the way, will host a panel with Sigourney Weaver on pop culture’s icons of feminine power.
The Comic Con sneaks covered in EW’s piece, Iron Man 2, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Zombieland, 2012, 9, Pandorium, Stargate Universe, Thirst, Kick-Ass, Star Wars The Clone Wars Season One (lol), Paper Heart, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Who are we kidding, though. Avatar is the big draw.
Michael Cieply wonders, though, whether it’s too big of a risk to start the hype machine too early; the risks are potentially too big. For his part, Jim Cameron is hoping more theaters will convert to 3-D before Avatar hits theaters.
