5 x 100 = 500 (Days of Summer). While it got slapped down by a couple of violently abusive anti-emo reviews, (500) Days of Summer has the rare distinction as one of the few movies in recent memory holding a metacritic score in the 70s with as many as 5 critics saying it’s 100% perfection.
Two recent Best Picture nominees had metacritic rankings of 81 and 80 — and each of those only got 4 scores of 100: Juno and Little Miss Sunshine. We know from past experience that a movie’s chances at the Oscars are not always a function of its overall average reception, but often depend on the degree of true enthusiasm from a group of core supporters.
