Not much change in the relative positions of the top 15 titles from where they stood after only a couple of hours of voting on Wednesday. Three days and 8500 votes later, Up holds on to the number one spot — possibly benefiting from the fact that it’s the only one of these movies most of us have seen (and possibly because it’s just that good.)
The question remains, as several of you have foretold in doomy terms: Which of these top contenders will fail to live up to expectations. We know a couple of them will be making us groan by the end of the year, and a few others that got short shrift in this first round of speculation will move up from the bottom of the barrel where they languish with 1 or 2% of the vote right now. If I had to make a guess on top of all the other guesses, I’d say that maybe we’re not giving A Serious Man enough serious consideration. It’s the Coen brothers, after all, and this is a much stronger, deeper screenplay than the sporty romp they tossed off last year.
A more detailed breakdown of the voting can be found after the cut, and you’re invited to start tearing down some of the current top contenders to make way for a few underdogs. Let us know your favorite dark horse, and your least favorite (and probably temporary) frontrunner.
