Thanks to sartre for pointing us (via LiC) to this tidy little breakdown of Life During Wartime, with a surprising amount of insight packed into 4:44 about the methods to the madness in the mind of Todd Solondz. Any director with such a skewed view of appropriate partners to pair Pee-Wee with Moaning Myrtle understands that perfect matches don’t have to be made in heaven.
(I like the inadvertent bumping of the shaky mirror behind Solondz’s head. Nice accidental analogy for how a nondescript and softspoken guy can take the most commonplace setting and gently warp the reflection into a wobbly off-kilter view of the world, teetering on the edge of subversion.)
