I keep reading that the 2009 Oscar season has officially begun (and here I thought it started on Feb 23rd). Now that Venice, Telluride and TIFF are behind us, leaving in their wake new titles bobbing to the surface, perhaps it’s time to take another shot at a Best Picture poll. Last time we did this, on June 30th, we cautiously called it a poll of “Hopefuls.” I think we can upgrade to certified Contenders at this stage.
Other changes since June have involved tough break-ups with ex-loves, and the newcomers we’re clinging to on the rebound. We swap Green Zone for Get Low, and The Tempest for The Tree of Life. Most painful of all, Shutter Island dumped us, but A Single Man has stepped in to sweep us off our feet.
Yes, silly of me to think Green Zone would dare show up on the battlefield when The Hurt Locker is securely locked and loaded. Ha ha, laugh all you want. You’re the guys who gave Up In the Air only 1% of the vote 3 months ago. We’re expecting you to rectify that situation, and adjust illusions about several others. (Funny People; Frustrated Fanboys.) The list of films grows too enormous to crash the main column, so you’ll need to click to page two to tick off your 10 predictions.
Please choose ten titles, and don’t forget to click to VOTE button at the bottom.
