It’s been a while since the Oscar race was confronted with a conundrum like The Blind Side. The movie is an organic hit, making boatloads of cash as it races to $200 million. Most people who have seen it seem to love it despite its bad reviews, although it does have its detractors. In fact, some have told me there is no way it can be nominated because of the liberal bent to Hollywood and the Academy. After all, it didn’t matter how much money the Passion of the Christ made, it was still ignored. On the other hand, this film has Sandra Bullock leading the way. Anyway, the ABC “news” program 20/20 is airing a one-hour special on the film, its real-life subject and its surprise success at the box office.¬† No one I know is expecting it to do much at the Oscars. Me, I’m not so sure.
Here is the Washington Post’s blurb about it:
If you sobbed through the feel-good football movie “The Blind Side,” get ready to break out the tissues again for an episode of “20/20” (ABC at 10) that has an interview with the real-life football player who inspired the film, the Baltimore Ravens’ Michael Oher. Anchor Deborah Roberts talks to Oher’s entire family, including Leigh Anne Tuohy, who was played by Sandra Bullock in the film, and her husband Sean Tuohy, portrayed by Tim McGraw.
