Only One Film

It’s worth noting, at this stage of the game, that only one film has hit every marker necessary to win Best Picture. Does that mean that The Hurt Locker is the only film that can win Best Picture? No. Most are predicting that Avatar will win the Golden Globe for Best Picture tomorrow and that may have an effect. Avatar will likely win the Producers Guild, while The Hurt Locker will the Directors Guild and probably the Writers Guild (Inglourious Basterds is not eligible). But The Hurt Locker has:

Los Angeles Film Critics, New York Film Critics, National Society of Film Critics, Broadcast Film Critics
Sag Ensemble
Writers Guild
Directors Guild
Producers Guild
Editors Guild

Inglourious Basterds is missing the Editors Guild nod. Avatar and Up in the Air are missing the SAG ensemble nod. Make of it what you will, but as we head into the race, only one film has hit them all. The only marker it hasn’t hit is … the money.
