The awards are happening now.

Someone asked what the difference was between the Cinema Audio Society and the Motion Picture Sound Editors awards. One is for Sound Mixing (CAS) and the other is for Sound Effects Editing. Generally speaking, the MPSE has matched up pretty closely with Oscar. Not sure why this is. Maybe it’s due to members in other branches skipping that award while the members of the Sound branch vote. The CAS doesn’t have as reliable a match.

Avatar is expected to take tonight’s award, and probably the Oscar.
