The LA Times’ 24 Frames blog makes the observation that it’s good PR for the Woodman to announce his upcoming plans to film in Paris just before he meets up with the French press in a few weeks:
Allen is famously terse about his upcoming releases, and yet on Thursday he not only revealed these details about “Paris” but also made a comment in which he pays homage to the French capital. “The film celebrates a young man’s great love for Paris, and simultaneously explores the illusion people have that a life different from their own is better,” he said.
As fans of the excellent Allen documentary “Wild Man Blues” know, the French adore Woody; the lovechild of Jerry Lewis and Michael Moore could walk down a Paris street and not generate as much excitement.
Carla Bruni will play a role in the film and that makes me imagine all sorts of splendid dinners with Allen sitting across from Sarkozy and discussing “sex and death: two things that happen once in a lifetime.”
Allen will bring his latest old man obsessed with pre-teen hottie ¬†meditation on the meaninglessness of life and the ultimate emptiness of the soul, ¬†You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger to the Cannes Film Fest in mid-May. ¬†Actually it’s a romantic comedy so there will be sex, some great jokes, and hopefully a decent ending.
