If the BAFTAs have any crossover effect on the Emmys (not even debatable), perhaps the only perceptible ripple across the pond already happened a year ago with a 2009 Emmy nomination for last night’s BAFTA Best Lead Actor winner. Kenneth Branaugh won for Wallander, the sophisticated 6-part series based on the Swedish police procedurals by Henning Mankell.
Other awards of note this weekend were a 3-sweep for The Thick of It: Best Situation Comedy, Best Actress Rebecca Front, and Best Actor Peter Capaldi who ported the same character over to In the Loop. Other than that there’s almost not overlap between Brit and Yank TV tastes — except for Mad Men winning the award for Best International series.
