Annie’s Change Rules, More Selective Voting

The Board of Directors of ASIFA-Hollywood has decided to limit voting for the Annie Awards to only qualified members of ASIFA-Hollywood who are animation professionals, said a recent email reminding potential voting members to apply by August 31 in order to qualify.

The Annies have always been in the most potentially influential position in front of the Oscars. No other group has the same impact. And with animated films getting better and better, the Annie’s could really make good use of their positioning.

They took some heat a few years ago when they went for Kung Fu Panda over Wall-E. We’ll have to wait and see whether it will make a difference at all, and in what way.
