Queer Palm: L’inconnu du lac, Stranger by the Lake
Prior to winning the Queer Palm today at Cannes Alain Guiraudie’s Stranger at the Lake (L’Inconnu du lac) was been picked up for North American distribution by Los Angeles-based Strand Releasing.
(THR)The psychological thriller, which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the fest, stars Pierre Deladonchamps as Franck, a young man who find himself attracted to a man (Christophe Paou) who might be a killer.
In THR’s review of the film, critic Jordan Mintzer writes: “Set entirely in one summery location, this not-very-straight story of a man’s infatuation with a local killer is at once lighthearted and gloomy, passionate and pared-down, and despite some longueurs, it provides a powerful critique on the dangers of social isolation and care-free living.”
