What a great year for movies 1982 was – Blade Runner, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Thing, The Verdict, Tootsie, E.T. — the winner for Best Picture was Gandhi – interesting but mostly forgettable. A different Academy, a different time. E.T. probably deserved to win but the Academy was never going to give the highest grossing sci-fi film starring a kid Best Picture of the year.
