HOLLYWOOD November, 22, 2013 — Composer Henry Jackman’s gripping score for Paul Greengrass’ geopolitical thriller Captain Phillips won Best Feature Film Score at the The Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) Thursday night at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, CA. In addition, the Nonesuch Records album Inside Llewyn Davis took Best Soundtrack honors and composer Jeff Beal won Best TV Score for the Netflix series House of Cards.
Other HMMA winners include Arrested Development composer David Schwartz for his Best TV Show Song “Getaway” from season 4 of the hit series and Walking Dead composer Bear McCreary for Best TV Theme Song. The film Thanks for Sharing counted two awards: Robin Urdang for Best Music Supervision and Kathryn Gallagher for her Best Song, “Damaged.”
This year’s HMMA Film Score category was extremely competitive with Jackman’s score facing off against the music from seven features including Gravity, 42, Star Trek Into Darkness and Enough Said. Jackman’s HMMA award is another milestone for the composer who previously won an Annie Award for Wreck-It Ralph, and was nominated for Discovery of the Year by the World Soundtrack Awards.
Exclaimed Jackman about his honor, “I would like to thank the Hollywood Music in Media Association for this award. It was an honor to work with director Paul Greengrass to tell the story of Captain Richard Phillips and the Somali Pirates. I enjoyed the challenge of telling a balanced story and adding perspective to this morally complex issue.”
Accepting the Soundtrack Award for Inside Llewyn Davis on behalf of the album’s producers T- Bone Burnett, Joel and Ethan Coen and associate producer Marcus Mumford; was actress Helen Hong, who plays Janet Fung in the film.
The HMMA recognizes and honors music of visual mediums and the individuals who create, produce and place compositions in the medium. Additionally, the prestigious awards show honors mainstream and independent music artists from around the globe. Shot in HD for global broadcasts, the HMMA is gaining in worldwide popularity. Traditionally, many of these same nominees will receive nods from both the Oscars® and the Golden Globes.
