Loved the book. Still skeptical about her casting, BUT she’s always compelling, so I have hope. But the fact that it’s been shelved so long seems like a bad sign. It seems fit for Cannes…
The photos look incredible….everything looks great, especially Lawrence and Cooper. They are exactly as I pictured Serena and George Pemberton looking when I read the book. I really need to see this film!. I loved the book so, I can’t wait to see Jennifer Lawrence play Serena…such a departure. Serena makes Lady Macbeth look like a wimp.
realmike, I’m just saying, whether or not they share scenes together, having them on the same bill is getting old hat. There are lots of underemployed actors out there, many with greater range, so it would be nice to see some variety.
I think the above poster meant 3 CONSECUTIVE NOMINATIONS for the same 2 STARS starring in the same 3 MOVIES TOGETHER.
2012- Silver Linings Playbook (Jennifer Lawrence- Best Actress, Bradley Cooper- Best Actor)
2013- American Hustle (JL- Best Supporting Actress, BC- Best Supporting Actor)
2014- Serena (JL- Best Actress?, BC- Best Supporting Actor?)
Lol…ppl really spot mistakes here. I meant Jlaw COULD instead of SHOULD get an oscar nom for this. She looks really good in the stills btw. I could see the character already.
Book was pretty good! I do not trust this director with this material (or any material), but you can’t help but be on the side of this most lively cinematic couple. They are redefining the craft of acting since we haven’t seen in 40, perhaps 60 years. Respective Academy Award nominations awaiting them?
I know this is wayyy too early in the year and we have seen nothing. But under this total no-clue situation I am hoping for Amy Adams or Jessica Chastain win this year….Again, after seeing their and other movies my opinion may change but now my heart wants one of those two ladies, giving the former a slight edge given the number of her nominations and consistent performance.
Nemo,
mine was just a question out of curiosity. i could have Googled it but i thought there are some people who could have known the answer by heart..I am not there yet!
3 consecutive nomination is nothing special.
coz there are 5 consecutive nomination holders(two actresses) and many other 4 consecutive nomination holders.
5 consecutive nomination
Bette Davis (1938–1942)
Greer Garson (1941–1945)
4 consecutive nomination
Marlon Brando (1951 to 1954)
Jennifer Jones (1943 to 1946)
Thelma Ritter (1950 to 1953)
Elizabeth Taylor (1957 to 1960)
Al Pacino (1972 to 1975)
3 consecutive nomination
Spencer Tracey, Gary Cooper, Ingird Bergman, Russel Crowe many others…
So get over it.
Anyhow, I can’t deny Jennifer Lawrence looks really well in that period drama (because I have been thinking her face is more like 1930-40 face.)
As a fan of book, wanna watch the actual film really badly…
Is there any other actor/actress that got 3 consecutive nominations??? could happen with either or both leads in this movie!
Other than that, we only seen these stills, nothing much. So, obviously too early to say that she will get nomination..But also it is too early to trash the movie and her performance as well….lets wait and see…
Jennifer Lawrence should clearly get an Oscar nom for this…even if d movie isn’t as excellent as expected. She really looks the part and very gud in period costume.
Very curious to see how this one turns out. It’s been in development so long speculation has ranged from it’s so amazing they’re perfecting it for awards season to its so slow no US distributor wants to touch it.
I have so high expectations of this movie, and mostly, of Lawrence. I’m in the middle of the book, and the character is fascinating and the plot is really interesting.
When will she star in an age-appropriate role (like Winter’s Bone)?
Too old for the Hunger Games films
Too young for American Hustle and Serena

You could also add Meryl Streep in the 3 Consecutive nominations:
1981: French Lieutenant’s Woman
1982: Sophie’s Choice
1983: Silkwood

@steve50
Yeah, I hated every single scene they shared together in “American Hustle”… oh wait.
^ HA, Paddy!
Frankly, these two should stop costarring with each other for awhile. Nobody’s gonna annoint them Tracy & Hepburn anytime soon.
They’re becoming the lawn ornaments of the cineplex.
Isn’t this kind of overdue? That’s not usually a good sign. Like ever.

In the name of wtf are you smoking Bryce?
Pictures uploaded to the website of Richard Bridgland, Serena’s Production Designer:

The oscar comments are because of the character. It’s a GREAT character, the kind of character that builds a career for anyone
Renee Zellweger (2002-2004>

Glenn Close too, 82, 83, 84, though all 3 in supporting.

“Jennifer Lawrence should clearly get an Oscar nom for this”
– I hope you’re joking, and if not, I hope you never become an Oscar voter. Way too many of them think like that.
STILLS?! Are you telling me this movie actually exists?
OMG, I want this in my life NOW!
Jennifer Lawrence should clearly get an Oscar nom for this
^^ Why?
Is this movie expected to debut at Cannes?

Something tells me this will be just like her previous non Hunger Games movies
I just hope that this is completely different from anything she did with Russell.
