The Hollywood Reporter’s exclusive continues to illustrate that the anti-gay laws soon to be instituted by the owner of the Beverly Hills Hotel, the Sultan of Brunei:
The Night Before party, which draws Hollywood’s biggest stars and every top executive in town, has been held at the Beverly Hills Hotel since its inauguration in 2003. The brainchild of DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, the Night Before has raised more than $60 million over the past 12 years. A magnet for Oscar nominees, it’s been supported by A-list talent like Warren Beatty and Tom Cruise. Its 2014 host committee included such names as Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, Camila and Matthew McConaughey, Jamie Foxx, Sandra Bullock and Octavia Spencer. In addition to THR, sponsors of the 2014 event included Delta, Dodge, L’Oreal USA, Relativity and Target.
There has been no new venue chosen but other boycotters include Ellen Degeneres, who made the unusual move of announcing her disapproval on Twitter.
SallyinChicago,
Because the Rich are overtaxed! Same thing happening here in France: luxury properties are being scooped up mostly by Qataris, Saudis, Russians and Chinese folks, who enjoy much lower taxes. There are also American companies buying French businesses, because somehow they pay less taxes when they keep their profits abroad (and French businesses have very little cash flow since they have to pay outrageously generous social benefits to their employees)… Go figure! Tax Fairness My A$$!
Why is it that foreigners are buying up American property?
Why is it that foreigners are buying Pepsi and Levis and tickets to Captain America?
America sells itself and people anywhere and everywhere buy whatever they want, whatever they can afford.
This protest is interesting. I remember when the hotel was for sale, I think right after Merv Griffin’s death, right? Who bid on the hotel then? Did any Americans bid on the hotel? Why is it that foreigners are buying up American property?
I think if the protestors had the money — and many of them do — that they bid on the hotel and take it out of the hands of the Sultan.
Joe, the stars can go and stay if they want. The charity is the one doing the dumping.
Is the Beverly hills hotel still going to be open to the stars
