The first trailer for Pride has dropped. Dominic West, Bill Nighy and Imelda Staunton headline the film which is based on a true story. Set in 1984, the dramedy involves gay rights campaigners who decide to support miners on strike in a Welsh village.
Directed by Tony Award winning Matthew Warchus (Matilda), the film received a standing ovation and received critical acclaim when it screened at Cannes in May.

$257m worldwide, an Oscar (plus three further nominations), BAFTAs, a SAG award, a WGA nomination and a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes would suggest that it’s not as bad as you think.

@Paddy Mullholand, you’re absolutely right. The trailer hits all the right notes; sets up the cause, sets up the villains, identifies the friends and in the end, the nice people win. Maybe The Daily Mail’s reviewer should have admitted the film is “indescribably irresistabel.”
The three critic quotes in the trailer are from a slightly-centre-right newspaper, a centre-right one and a full-blown, hard-line nasty-ass right-as-fuck-wing one. Looks like they know their audience and they’re out with this trailer to court a new one!
The fact that a Daily Mail journalist has described a film about anti-Thatcher Welsh mining communities and an LGBT civil rights movement ‘indescribably wonderful’ is indescribably odd.
