The eagerly anticipated film looks just great – Inception in space. Nolan is expert at building suspense and dazzling on that giant IMAX screen.

Sasha Stone has been around the Oscar scene since 1999. Almost everything on this website is her fault.
To think what it must be like to have been involved in the production of this film, and to have known about its (potential) brilliance for months or even years now. And we don’t have a fucking clue. Must be super cool. All I know is that I’m super excited.
The trailers have said “emotional space adventure.” That’s why they’ve been great. This one says”bring your protractor.” Which is why it’s not a very good ad.
“I’m assuming that the marketing for this film will be similar, with different TV spots targeting a different demographic.”

If so, that would be great. For a change, I’d like to see those snippets from different perspectives.
But in the end, I trust that Nolan will deliver even though, for good measure, there were a few action sequences in The Dark Knight Rises that he, in my opinion, could have been more careful with, for instance, [SPOILERS for the rest of this paragraph] the one where Batman and Bane were spotted fighting in front of the city hall’s façade before they got in and *someone* got stabbed — the action stunts by the so-called background artists were just not right (unrealistic) to me.
Anyway, from this trailer only, I didn’t get last year’s Matthew vibes — it was more to me like Jodie Foster-starring Contact period’s McConaughey. But then it was just a trailer. : )
“I’m just hoping it was not being focused too much on the disaster/action scenes, for instance, a la Armageddon . . . . ”
These trailers sort of remind me of Avatar’s marketing. They had a ton of different tones for those TV spots, ranging from the more action packed ones for the sports crowd, to the more family friendly ones for younger audiences and, of course, the ones that emphasized the romantic aspect of the story. I’m assuming that the marketing for this film will be similar, with different TV spots targeting a different demographic.
Basically, from #this very trailer only, it looks like a good (#not great [not dissing it on purpose; just saying what I thought]) mainstream flick to me — which might be what the suits and their in-house marketing team members/PR consultants have had in mind in first place in order to draw the target groups of average moviegoers. That said, I’m looking forward to the full feature. I feel there must be something solid in terms of FX and sci-fi elements, as well as storytelling and acting, for me; I’m just hoping it was not being focused too much on the disaster/action scenes, for instance, a la Armageddon . . . .
(Not sure, however, […] if it is really, er, sorry, an Oscar movie despite the vibes [no hidden agenda]. Not that it matters.)
Ryan, are you sure you’re not talking about Ariana Grande?
I dunno about this one, because ….there are so many good movies out and coming….I just saw the Drop, then I saw the Equalizer (good popcorn movie!), next week Gone Girl….this costs a lot of money to see movies every week.
bad mix is part of it, but I don’t have trouble understanding anyone but Hathaway. She drops words and slurs emphasis in other scenes too. Is she attempting some kind of accent or vocal mannerism? If so, it’s gone horribly wrong.
Here is all the spots. Great stuff.

There now appear to be 4 to 6 different new TV spots up on YouTube. One was shown during the Cowboys-Saints game last night which highlighted action sequences (to appeal no doubt to bro football fans). Looks like the studio is starting a very sophisticated, high-powered marketing push.
“One quick quibble: am I the only one who’s having a hard time understanding a lot of Hathaway’s dialogue? That one line is supposedly “I’m not gonna make it!”, but I can barely discern that, even after hearing it a dozen times.”
Not that line, but the sound mix seems to be off. Music is way too heavy.
A bit off-topic, but looking at some stats from IMDB of what the moviegoing audiences think of my top-3 favorite filmmakers. The sheer amount of votes on some of these films are amazing. Also interesting to note how many awards and nominations Nolan has received over the years, while still being referred to as “due”.

“I’m not gonna make it!”
Are you sure? I thought she was calling out for “Amanda Gorecki!” owner and developer of Pure MD.
One quick quibble: am I the only one who’s having a hard time understanding a lot of Hathaway’s dialogue? That one line is supposedly “I’m not gonna make it!”, but I can barely discern that, even after hearing it a dozen times.
Anyway, nitpick aside, very much ready for this. Hope too much hasn’t been given away. Really intrigued by Monolith-Bot (or whatever it’ll be called). Will be seeing this in IMAX. With bells on.
Way off topic but needed to say this and don´t know where I should: the opening of Oscar Podcast Episode 71 Part One with Bruce Springsteen`s You are Missing over Robin Williams stand up comedy act made me cry like a baby.
I know buzz is positive but somehow I feel this will not be a good movie. I don´t know, feels kind of dumb honestly. Hope to be very wrong. Just keeps giving me a 60s/70s B movie vibe, a Lost in Space vibe too. From the posters and the trailers can´t see this being a deep thought provoking movie.
AILIDH, get the hell out of here. I didn’t even know that. Well now McConaughey has to work with them. Thank you CHRIS138. Didn’t even see The Three Musketeers, but that’s some solid music by Paul Haslinger. It’s nice to see trailers and tv spots where you’re not hearing the same music that’s used for everyone. I mean as much as I love that score from Sunshine, I don’t need to hear it used for anymore trailers at this point.
You’d think McConaughey would be closer to the Coens’ sensibility than somebody who is as emotionally stolid as Clooney. There was a funny story in Variety when they interviewed McConaughey before the Oscars. He hadn’t intended to become an actor, he wanted to work on the production side. He got hired as a PA for a Coen film and moved out to LA to work. Then the film got delayed, McConaughey ran out of money and appealed to the casting director of Dazed & Confused who sent McConaughey out to casting calls – and McConaughey got hired every time he showed up – obviously more for his looks than his talent. So the Coens are pretty much responsible for McConaughey’s acting career.
God, I can’t wait to see this.
@James: Someone in the comments of that YouTube video said that the music is called “Only Four Men” by Paul Haslinger, from the soundtrack to the Three Musketeers.
Good year to be a moviegoer. Nolan, Fincher, Miller, Iñárritu, PTA, Linklater, Doesn’t get much better than that. Probably the best thing that gives us a closer idea of what it’s about. If this makes Gravity levels of doe if not more, the Academy might not be able to deny. Wonder if the music in this spot is from the film. Anyone kind of wish he was playing Rust again, but put into this film. Seriously why haven’t the Coens written a stoner character for him?
That gives a lot more plot details. Love the walking black monolith. McConaughey looks very impressive.
