This is what drives me crazy about the orgy of critics’ awards. It seems as if the same performers and pictures are getting nominated and winning, over and over. Critics are supposed to be so opinionated and independent, yet they seem to think like sheep at this time of the year. … About the only thing new that these nominees turned up was Essie Davis (”The Babadook”) and Gene Jones (”The Sacrament”). And Norton winning for ”Birdman” was a nice surprise.
Go Norton, go!!!
This list of nominees and winners makes me so proud to have grown up in Northern California and San Francisco.
Their nominations were so interesting, even with The Imitation Game for Best Picture and Gone Girl shut out save an Adapted Screenplay nod, that I’m quite disappointed to note how generic their winners are. Even Edward Norton’s no surprise – Roberto’s right, he’s gaining momentum. But I think J. K. Simmons has the edge. Birdman’s more of a critics’ movie than anything else, and I think there’ll be more of a push to recognise Simmons in the end. If nothing else, Norton has a fairly poor public image, and is widely regarded as being ‘difficult’ #kindredspirits
ugh…I think I will try to watch Lego Movie again to see what I missed in the first time!!! Could be a good movie to rewatch in a cross-atlantic flight when I have lots of time to kill::)
Thanks Ryan!
The race to Best Picture will be a two-horse race, it is now clear. And Boyhood has definitely the edge at the moment. Birdman seems to be popular for its writing and acting (and for a very good reason: it’s superb), which could be a factor at the Oscars.
Ohh…this group must be sexist…How dare they pick PTA over Gillian Flynn for best adapted screenplay???:)
All winners updated now, Roberto. I posted this while the final voting was still underway.
This easily could be the list of winners at the Oscars…
Norton is getting momentum…
Are the other winners coming soon?
