I don’t know about predictability. Wouldn’t be surprised if ‘The Imitation Game’ pulled off an ‘Argo’ at the Oscars – Best Picture, Editing and Adapted Screenplay. Birdman wins original screenplay and actor. Boyhood gets director and supporting actress. ‘American Sniper’ wins both sound categories. ‘The Theory of Everything’ and ‘Foxcatcher’ get nothing.
Then again I may be wrong. Perhaps ‘The Imitation Game’ is this year’s ‘American Hustle’. ‘The Imitation Game’ is quite a complex film. It touches on the role of women in those days who were expected to be secretaries and not do anything of importance. It is also about loyalty, having to make tough choices about life and death. It isn’t just about mathematics.
Looks like Oscar winners are going to be rather predictable this year.
So glad to see ”Boyhood” do so well at the London Critics Circle. It seems like such an ”American” movie. Richard Linklater even won for Best Director over Mike Leigh (”Mr. Turner”). Neither Morten Tyldum nor James Marsh were in the running. … Yay for Alex Lawther! He played the young Alan Turing and was the real discovery of ”The Imitation Game.”… His co-star, Benedict Cumberbatch, was up for both Actor of the Year and British Actor of the Year, but didn’t win. Ditto, for Eddie Redmayne. … And even though they didn’t win, hooray for the nominations for Riz Ahmed and Gugu Mbatha-Raw!
Over the moon that Under the Skin won for its excellent Score.
