It isn’t all on the studios, of course. It’s on the bloggers, the critics and the audiences – if we’re laying blame. Scarlett Johansson is so much more talented than every single actor she’s playing “the girl” for in the Avenger films it’s just embarrassing by this point. SNL mocked the whole notion of how getting a Black Widow movie is apparently impossible … unless …
I always thought a pre-Avengers Black Widow/ Hawkeye “solo” film would be kinda cool.
I can’t imagine scenario in which Scarlett wants to do BW movie. Her career outside of Marvel is fantastic mix of critical acclaim and star power (she opened Lucy on her name alone, no franchise or co-star help needed…which much more than RDJ ever did after his breakout with Iron Man) , so she doesn’t need BW. In fact, she has possible action franchise starter with Ghost in the Shell. I mean, the lady’s on fire. She’s sought after for every big role in town and her career outgrew Marvel at this point.
SNL forgot the always romantic fatal disease/lingering death bit
I think a Black Widow movie would kill at the box office, and I’d be interested in seeing them explore the character’s background, especially in a prequel; however, I guess they are banking on Captain Marvel being the first female led Marvel film.
Lucy showed potential that a female superhero film can make money. Yes it wasn’t a superhero film, but it shows that SJ is a draw and so are action films surrounding women.
Okay, I’ll play this game.
6. Hemsworth
5. Evans
4. Johansson
3. Downey
2. Ruffalo
1. Renner
I’ll add that I think all six are (at the very least) good actors and I enjoy seeing them in movies outside of the MCU as well.
And yes, that SNL sketch is great.

Rankin’ The Avengers By Acting Ability!
6. Hemsworth (though he’s an excellent Thor)
5. Evans (though he’s a perfect Captain America)
4. Renner
3. Johansson
2. Downey (though he’s essentially just been playing himself/Tony Stark since 2008)
1. Ruffalo
