The Year of the Man marches on with Bradley Cooper in Burnt. Oh look, there’s Emma Thompson propping him up – and look, there’s Siena Miller helping him out. I kid. I’m sure it has to be better than this trailer because it was picked up the Weinstein Co. and their instincts are usually spot on. Also, it may be about a man but women audiences will eat this up like candy.
Chef Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper) had it all – and lost it. A two-star Michelin rockstar with the bad habits to match, the former enfant terrible of the Paris restaurant scene did everything different every time out, and only ever cared about the thrill of creating explosions of taste. To land his own kitchen and that third elusive Michelin star though, he’ll need the best of the best on his side, including the beautiful Helene (Sienna Miller). BURNT is a remarkably funny and emotional story about the love of food, the love between two people, and the power of second chances.
OT: Seriously you guys, this weekend is a great one for movie fans. Well, this movie fan anyway. My top 3 movies of 2015 so far are in the theater right now. THE GIFT, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, and THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. And honestly it’s almost a 3 way tie for me. I love all of them. It’s hot outside too so everyone should get to the theater if they can.
And about Cavill. I only really saw him in the Superman crapitude. In fact I called the Lone Ranger the Superman we deserved. But, that was the movie’s fault clearly. I really thought Cavill did a great job in THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. as did Mr. Hammer. I thought their accents were fabu. It was interesting to me that it was so easy for me to buy an all-American guy like Hammer as a Russian when I could not buy Tom Hardy, who you all know I usually champion, as a Russian at all (CHILD 44). I know this year is stacked for Best Actor. I know they won’t nominate roles in actual entertaining movies as opposed to ‘dramatic turns in serious filmz’ but honestly I saw some great acting this weekend. The guys in STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON were cast for their looks obviously, but they all did a great job. Especially the guy playing Eazy-E, Jason Mitchell. He and O’Shea Jackson, Jr. really were the emotional tag team in that movie. Mr. Jackson did a heck of a lot more than look and sound like his dad.
