The always diligent guardian angel, Women and Hollywood’s Melissa Silverstein did some looking around and discovered that Ava DuVernay, who became the first African American woman to be nominated for a Golden Globe in directing, and the first African American woman to have a film nominated for Best Picture and now becomes the first to direct a $100 million movie. After all, Selma made $52 million and was a Best Picture nominee which more than qualifies her for Big Hollywood. That this is even news is kind of a drag but who are we kidding. We know what kind of world we live in, what kind of country we live in, and what kind of industry Hollywood is. Women can’t be trusted with the big jobs.
A Wrinkle in Time is a film about a young girl who travels in time to rescue her father who is imprisoned on another planet.
We congratulate Ms. DuVernay on this success, the success of Queen Sugar and all other future endeavors.
