Annette Bening Holds Her Family Together in First 20th Century Women Trailer

The greatest year for actresses continues with this new trailer for 20th Century Women. Annette Bening is the matriarch in what seems to be a coming of age story amid Jimmy Carter’s presidency. Two young women, Greta Gerwig and Elle Fanning are growing up and learning about life.

That Jimmy Carter speech at the beginning was way ahead of its time. He was 100% right about Americans but they did not want to hear it then, and they certainly don’t want to hear it now. Carter really did believe in personal responsibility. Americans don’t. They want a leader who will fix it for them but they (we) still want to be able to have whatever we want, whenever we want it. Reagan came along and with him renewed “American Exceptionalism” that said – you do not have to feel guilty for being materialistic. And so it went. And so it goes.
