Fox Searchlight has snapped up Pablo Larrain’s Jackie and set a release date of December 9, 2016. Jackie first screened earlier at the Venice Film Festival but was acquired after its Toronto screening.
The film stars Oscar-winner Natalie Portman as first lady Jackie Kennedy and follows the first lady in the immediate aftermath following JFK’s 1963 assassination.
Nancy Utlight and Stephen Gilula, Presidents at Fox Searchlight said, “Pablo Larraín’s ‘Jackie’ is a daring, one-of-a-kind cinematic portrayal of a beloved icon. Led by an indelible performance from Natalie Portman and supported by a richly talented ensemble of actors and artists, the film is one we are thrilled to bring to audiences later this year.”
Larrain added, “I am delighted that Fox Searchlight will be releasing ‘Jackie’. Their movies have been an important influence on me as a filmmaker, and it is a personal achievement for me to have them bring this very special story of a beautiful, sophisticated and mysterious woman to the world.”.
The December 9 release date makes it a prime contender for the Oscars . Peter Sarsgaard stars as Robert Kennedy,and Greta Gerwig stars as Jackie’s personal assistant.
