Here is a clip showing one of three incarnation by Rachel Weisz. Here, she is apparently doing an American accent – maybe Brooklyn? Weisz has had one of those years where she’s been appearing in multiple roles showcasing her range. As the muse for the Black Swan, we know that Weisz is relentless when it comes to the art of acting. This year, she’s been in The Light Between Oceans, The Lobster, Complete Unknown, The Mercy and Denial. One of my own personal pet peeves is when actors we know are British do American accents. Some can pull it off beautifully, and vice versa, but some seem to struggle with it and thus, it tends to distract. Michael Caine is someone I can’t watch struggle through an American accent. I’m not big on Kate Winslet’s either but I can manage. I think Weisz does a good job here. Pic is directed by Mick Jackson, with Timothy Spall and Tom Wilkinson in supporting parts.
Denial is about:
“Based on the book History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier, Denial recounts Deborah E. Lipstadt’s (Rachel Weisz) legal battle for historical truth against David Irving (Timothy Spall), who accused her of libel when she declared him a Holocaust denier. In the English legal system, in cases of libel, the burden of proof is on the accused, therefore it was up to Lipstadt and her legal team, led by Richard Rampton (Tom Wilkinson), to prove the essential truth that the Holocaust occurred.”
