No relief in the crowded Best Actress race which just ramps up a notch every day, it seems. Isabelle Huppert will be in contention for her work in Elle, which will need strong support from critics to crack the top five, even with the rave reviews. Despite her brilliant career, Huppert has never earned an Oscar nomination. Might this be her turn?

LOS ANGELES, CA, October 5, 2016 — The American Film Institute (AFI) announced today that AFI FEST 2016 presented by Audi will honor acclaimed actress Isabelle Huppert with a Tribute and a Gala screening at the festival. The Tribute will celebrate her storied career and will include a conversation with the actress, followed by a Gala screening of Sony Pictures Classics’ ELLE (DIR Paul Verhoeven) on Sunday, November 13, at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre.
“Isabelle Huppert is a masterful actress,” said Jacqueline Lyanga, AFI FEST Director. “Her fearlessness and precision shine in ELLE, and we are thrilled to honor her illustrious career at the 30th edition of AFI FEST, as she exemplifies the best of world cinema.”
Among international film’s most seasoned actresses, Isabelle Huppert has countless awards to her credit — with 15 César Award nominations, the most for any actress, and a win for LA CÉRÉMONIE (1995). Her other films include VIOLETTE (1978), STORY OF WOMEN (1988), MADAME BOVARY (1991), THE PIANO TEACHER (2001), I HEART HUCKABEES (2004), WHITE MATERIAL (2009), AMOUR (2012) and THINGS TO COME (2016). She has twice won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival, and is an Officer of both the National Order of Merit and the Legion of Honour.
About ELLE
Michèle (Isabelle Huppert) seems indestructible, bringing the same ruthless attitude to her love life as she does to her business as head of a leading video game company. But her life changes forever after an unknown assailant attacks her in her home. When she resolutely tracks the man down, they are both drawn into a curious and thrilling game — a game that may, at any moment, spiral out of control.

AFI FEST will spotlight Dorothy Dandridge, the first African American nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award®; Ida Lupino, a pioneering director, writer, producer and actress who became the first woman to direct a film noir; and Anna May Wong, the first Chinese-American actress to rise to international prominence.
AFI FEST takes place November 10–17, 2016, in the heart of Hollywood. Screenings, Galas and other events will be held at the TCL Chinese Theatre, the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres, the Egyptian Theatre and The Hollywood Roosevelt. The full festival lineup and schedule will be unveiled in October.
