The AFI Fest will showcase some of the year’s most buzz worthy performances, including Natalie Portman in Jackie, Annette Bening in 20th Century Women, Emma Stone in La La Land, Isabelle Huppert in Elle and now, just announced, Jessica Chastain in Miss Sloane. The only one missing so far is Amy Adams for Arrival. Yes, indeed, it is a crowded Best Actress category, as it will be a crowded and competitive AFI Fest.
Miss Sloane is a showcase performance for Chastain, who plays a smartest-person-in-the-room lobbyist hired by a gun control campaign to help pass legislation. Everyone knows that no legislation on guns is ever passed in Washington because Washing is controlled by lobbyists. The NRA has among the deepest pockets and therefore, they tend to win. It’s often a game of behind the scenes trickery, bribery and persuasion to get the congress members to change their votes to pass any bill. It’s corrupt, of course, but it is what it is. Miss Sloane plays someone who is better at the game than most and puts herself in the position of challenging the very machine she used to rule.
Chastain is among the most versatile and talented actresses currently working in Hollywood.
Miss Sloane will play at the AFI Fest on November 11th.
