On Sunday around 10am Pacific time, the Los Angeles Film Critics will throw their hat in the ring. These awards are really impossible to predict except in the way that they sometimes seem to want to be different from the status quo. That has made them more influential to the Oscar race and less in agreement except for last year when they gave Spotlight their top award and the Academy followed suit.
I expect that Isabelle Huppert will likely win again, with a clean sweep of the critics’ awards (because that’s what they do). I would think that they will either give their Best Picture prize to one of the top three – La La Land, Manchester by the Sea or Moonlight – or they will fly off the rails and go for Silence.
They might go even further off the rails and go for Hell or High Water – who knows. This election was such a gut punch, it’s hard to get upset about anything regarding film awards, no? So do what you want, LA. We’ll catch you on the rebound.
AwardsDaily will be covering the event with tweets and full coverage here.
