Garth Davis was nominated not for one, but two DGA awards earlier today — in both the Feature Film category, and the new First-time Feature Film category. Lion is the incredible true story of Saroo, a young boy who is separated from his family in India, is adopted by new parents in Australia, and years later sets out to find his original home using Google Earth. For our series Through the Lens, Davis breaks down the scene in Lion when young Saroo’s life is changed forever. Saroo wakes up on a train platform, alone, late at night. He searches for his brother who hasn’t returned for him, and makes the fateful mistake of getting on a train that will take him hundreds of miles from everything he knows and loves.
In a special short podcast edition, listen as Davis walks us through the scene. It’s a fine companion piece to what Greig Fraser told us in an earlier edition of Through the Lens : http://www.awardsdaily.com/2017/01/12/lens-greig-fraser-lion/
