Watch: Blu Murray on Editing Sully

Blu Murray started his career as a visual effects editor and worked his way up to being a first editor on films such as Catwoman, Changeling, Gran Torino, and American Sniper. The opportunity to cut his first film came up and he jumped at the chance. “I actually wanted to be a soccer player.” Murray says until an injury thwarted his plans. So he followed in his father’s (Alan Robert Murray) footsteps and turmed to a career in film.

Sully gave him the opportunity to work with Clint Eastwood and see a master at work. “I wanted to have the same energy that I had the first time I read the script.” He says of the opening sequence that takes us right into the plane crashing into the Hudson before we’re jolted back to Captain Sully waking up. “I had a blast.” Murray says of his whole experience.

“There was quite a bit of footage on the Hudson because we had photographers in helicopters shooting where the ferries would be.” Murray says, “Clint wanted to feel like you were in the plane with these people, panicked and trying to get out.
