The 2017 BAFTA TV Craft winners include Netflix’s The Crown and AMC’s The Night Manager. The main categories will be announced May 14.
The 2017 BAFTA TV Craft Awards were announced today. Four series tied with two wins each: The Crown, The Night Manager, National Treasure, and Planet Earth II. Winners in the above-the-line categories will be announced in a May 14 ceremony.
In the 2017 BAFTA TV Craft Awards, the race between The Crown and The Night Manager felt more competitive. The Night Manager received 6 nominations going into today’s announcement while The Crown received 7 mentions. The Night Manager took home awards for editing and sound. Despite its sumptuous period decor, The Crown took home bids for costumes and special effects, losing production design to War & Peace.
In addition, The Crown lost direction and writing – two categories in which it remains competitive for Emmy consideration. Home grown British productions National Treasure and Happy Valley won direction and writing respectively. Since it remains largely a Netflix production, The Crown may appear too American, despite a heavy British talent contingent.
