Variety reported the story though if you read it, the production has not yet been finalized.
I know two things about David Fincher. 1) He collaborates well with Brad Pitt and 2) his notions of where to take a sequel will be wildly different from how you might think. Fans of Fincher’s work will be happy he’s putting out any movie, let alone with a big budget and lots of dark imagery. Purists will grumble about his doing something in this genre – though you could argue that most of his films, give or take, have been “genre” films, so-called. Dreamy, moody sci-fi has become quite captivating of late, with Ex Machina, Arrival and whatever Denis Villeneuve is going to do with Blade Runner. Fincher will be part of this new wave of sorts, reshaping an already dark zombie movie into something a little more like art.
I’ve yet to see any work by Fincher (including Alien3) that wasn’t brilliant, and though I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first World War Z I’d be curious to see where he takes this, as I know it will be a road less traveled.
Anyway, something to chew on while we wait for MIND HUNTER TO ARRIVE in October. MIND HUNTER!!
